Melanie Parke lives and works in a 100 year old country store in Chief, Michigan, a small abandoned railroad town, population 13. She absorbs the iconic features of her regions lake-rich landscape into crafted memories of cottage interiors and wilderness experiences. Melanie credits her mother, late on summer nights, urging her and her siblings up top of the station wagon rooftop to watch heat lightning, for her sense of preternatural realism. Melanie has been instrumental in establishing artist in residency programs in national parks across the country, is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is represented by the Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Anne Loucks Gallery in Glencoe, Illinois.
